Suspension

As some have you noticed, my site (geekness.eu) has been suspended the last couple days. How? It all started when Torrentino was undergoing maintainence. I needed to move Torrentino to a server, so I could work on Torrentino a little more which I ended up parking torrentino.net and torrentino.info here (on my account).

You see, Torrentino's website and tracker uses the same IP, and obiously, same domain name. So, when I moved the website to a different server, Torrentino's tracker didn't work since well, it doesn't exist on this server. But why did the site get suspended, you ask? Seems like BayTSP (yes), emailed the ISP who (I'm guessing) leases lines to the datacenter where, ta da, my website and Torrentino is hosted (temporarily). You can read the letter here: http://pastebin.ca/1498578

Red meat

Since my boredom has been growing substantially over the last couple days, I thought of building a SAN. Yes, a SAN, not a NAS. Get another web server running and put it in a round robin type config. Set up a SAN for centeralized storage (among other things), then yay!

Really, it's just an excuse to build more servers and use ports on my 24 port switch....

WorkSimple 1.2.3 was released the other day, improved on some things, 'optimized' some code.

Sysode has been going pretty well, though I'm concerned if I have the need to scale up/out. The underlying code is quite messy, I'm not a fan of neat looking code nor whitespace. I should improve on the looks of my code, it may actually be maintainable...

Working with Synergy

Having to switch between computer to computer [locally] is tiresome. Yes that's right, rotating your head 75 degrees hurts after a while, nevermind the shift in your body.

I have a tri-monitor setup, plus two laptops. Moving my hands each time to keyboard sucks. This is where Synergy comes in. In short, it's software KVM, so to speak. That means no special hardware. Share one keyboard/mouse between multiple clients. Interesting, eh?

Here's a quick tutorial on getting it set up.

How to: Turn a wireless router into an access point

When I purchased my Linksys BEFSX41 I had two spare wireless routers a D-Link WBR-1310 and a WBR-2310 respectively. What to do? Turn them into wireless AP's (access points) of course! Increase your wireless coverage, look cool!

First thing's first, set up DHCP on your main router. For me it's the BEFSX41. Set your DHCP range, for example 192.168.0.150-199 giving you some room for wireless devices.

Now login to your router (most likely 192.168.x.1) which is converting to an AP, the WBR-1310/2310 for me. Turn DHCP off and set the router IP to below or above the DHCP range. So for example, 192.168.0.149, 192.168.0.200 etc.

'or 1=1

Jeez, almost been a week since my last blog post. Recently, I've been working on Sysode more and more. Numerous bugs have been fixed, yet there are more and more features everytime I work on it. It's open for registration, but more than likely your account will be deleted if you end up signing up.
I'm open for any feedback on it :D

I was planning on finding a job this summer, but well, I haven't gotten around to it yet. Staples seems interesting, but meh. Retail doesn't interest me at all. I could always freelance though, little scripting and remote adminstration on the side to bring in some green.

I installed Synergy on my workstation and my two other laptops (which are on either side of my tri-monitor workstation). All I can say is amazing. So much more convenient and productive.

'Bout 05:00 here, I'll wrap up working on Sysode then hit the ol' dusty trail ;)

TPB sold out

'Drinking' from the /. Firehose, I came across numerous stories that TPB sold out. Couple minutes later after some Googling, it seems they sold TPB for 7.8$ million (SEK 60 million). I bet they'll be going the Napster way of things and make shitloads of money.

Isn't it something like half of all torrents use TPB as a tracker? Over at TF, they'll be decentralizing things. They [TPB guys) were fined 3.5$ million, but they said so in their blog that they'll be using the money to "help with freedom of speech, freedom of information and the openess of the net."

It's sad though, disapointing in one way or another. I'd also guess that Mininova is next.

New router

A new router wasn't really necessary, but I thought I'd get one anyway. I ended up purchasing a Linksys BEFSX41. Pretty cool router, it includes a firewall and VPN end point. What I thought was (for some reason) that the router would act as a VPN server. That's not the case. I'd need to run a server in my LAN for it to be accessible WAN wide.

Since you could do a round robin setup with a DNS server, could you not do the same but with a web server?

I have two spare wireless routers, which are now AP's around the  house.

Comments or aaaanything at all are appreciated.

Boot's 'n cats

If you say "boots 'n cats" relatively fast, it sounds like you're beatboxing. Sorta sick right now, haven't really had the energy to work on anything (other than a little bit of Sysode).

Well, seems like I have 100$ in Staples gift cards and another 100$ in cold hard cash. Looking at their site, the Linksys BEFSX41 caught my eye. I'm also in need of a at least 750W UPS, to power all my servers incase there is no power.

Since I host Torrentino myself and manage the [three] servers, I've gotten tired of Torrentino. Maybe it's not very adventurous right now, maybe I need to add some more shit to it; I'm not sure.

At the moment, I'm up for bids ( for Torrentino).
